TIAP is a proud partner for OBIO’s Life Sciences Critical Technologies & Commercialization (LSCTC) Centre of Excellence and is responsible for delivering the Centre’s “De-Risking of Emerging Technologies and Venture Creation” funding stream.

Under this program stream, emerging life sciences technologies and early-stage ventures utilizing 5G and advanced networks, blockchain, cybersecurity, ethical artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and/or robotics are eligible to receive up to $200K comprised of a grant of up to $100K plus a dilutive match from TIAP (for TIAP member institutions) or a match from another third-party institution (for non-TIAP members) to be applied to technology development and/or executive advisory support.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

  • Applicants must represent either an emerging technology with IP developed in Ontario, or an emerging SME (fewer than 500 FTEs) based in Ontario seeking support with IP management, company creation, and/or technology de-risking;
  • For emerging technologies, they must show high potential for company creation with operations in Ontario;
  • Technology/SME must be focused on developing human health science products/services, including but not limited to medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, health IT, and therapeutics;
  • Projects will be evaluated on:
  • Team Expertise and Execution Plan
  • Market Potential and Demand
  • Innovation and Technology Viability
  • Clinical Validation and Patient Impact

Application Process

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest to LSTCT Centre of Excellence Funding Stream I (via OBIO) by CLICKING HERE
  2. For those technologies/ventures meeting minimum eligibility requirements, applicants will be contacted by TIAP to arrange a series of Interviews:
    • Interview 1: Team Expertise and Execution Plan
    • Interview 2: Technology
  3. For those technologies/ventures selected for support, TIAP will work with you to design the final Project Plan and execute a Project Agreement.

Please Note:

  • Only one application per company/technology is permitted
  • Application must be submitted by a member of your senior management team
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Project initiation is expected to commence approximately 3-4 months after initial application submission.
